Assistant Family Key Worker

Vacancy: Assistant Family Key Worker (Connecting Opportunities)


Salary: £10,800
Hours: 16 hours per week
Location: Dominion Training, Wakefield

The post is for a fixed term of 18 Months

We are looking for a Family Key Worker who will work with refugees and migrants in the Wakefield area. As a family Key Worker, you will be entry point for participants coming into the programme and you will develop a package of support that will enable the participants to overcome barriers which have hindered them from making progress.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, flexible and passionate Family Key Worker to join us in delivering our National Lottery Community Fund and ESF Funded project called Connecting Opportunities, part of the Building Better Opportunities programme.

The ideal candidate will have the following:
• Experience of working with refugees and migrants
• Good knowledge of the needs of refugees and migrants
• Knowledge of the support network in the Wakefield area
• Experience of working with families
• Teaching ESOL to Refugees and Migrants
• Effective ICT and record keeping skills
• Experience of working in partnership with other agencies
• Ability to engage with the disadvantaged
• Experience of working with individuals with disability
• Ability to support individuals with English as a second language
• Ability to set goals, priorities and assess participants development
• A proven track record in delivering targets

As a Key Worker you will provide 1:1 support to people who are long-term unemployed to help them move towards and access training and employment. By providing intensive support and advice you will help each participant develop a tailored action plan and identify how this can be best met through existing services.

Connecting Opportunities works with new migrants to develop their skills and opportunities to find work and be part of the local community. Ten organisations that specialise in working with migrants are offering tailored support, cultural orientation, English Language classes and other training across West Yorkshire and part of North Yorkshire (Craven, Harrogate, Selby and York). The project is also creating new local connections, with opportunities for local people to the volunteer mentors and befrienders, and for employers to provide work placements to help people get a foothold in the job market.

Connecting Opportunities is funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund. It is part of the Building Better Opportunities programme
