Family Mentor (BBO Hopeful Families)


Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Location: Dominion Training, Wakefield

This position is part of Hopeful Families project which is funded by the Big Lottery and the European Social Fund (Building Better Opportunities Project), BBO.

The post is for a fixed term of 2 years (24 months).

We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic, flexible and passionate family mentor to join our team to support our organisation in delivering an exciting project called Hopeful Families which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund through the Building Better Opportunities programme.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable individual and families
  • Understanding of working with hard to reach individuals
  • The ability to work independently
  • Experience of working with other agencies
  • Ability to work and make decisions under pressure
  • Effective ICT and record keeping skills
  • Track record of working effectively with employers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of barriers faced by those who are unemployed and how to support them
  • Knowledge of the support network in the Wakefield area
  • Experience of working with families

It is therefore essential you have substantial experience working in this type of role. It is also desirable that you will have a Level 3 Guidance and Counselling qualification.

You will be engaging with employers, recruitment agencies and partners to find suitable job vacancies, work placements, and employer mentors will be essential so as to enable participants to find employment.

         

As a Family Mentor you will provide 1:1 support to people who are long-term unemployed to help them move towards and access training and employment. By providing intensive support and advice you will help each participant develop a tailored action plan and identify how this can be best met through existing services.
